Organic Certification of Bamboo

In order to be called organic, a produce must have an organic certification.  But why is it important for organic bamboo to be certified in this way and who are the organisations that can certify bamboo as organic?

In order to be called organic bamboo must be produced from bamboo grass that meets the same organic production requirements of cotton with the same types of third party certification. Certification is provided by an organic certifying group which audits a business’ methods to ensure that they comply with national or international standards for organic farming and processing. The certification acts as confirmation to wholesalers, retailers and consumers that the produce really is organic.

These organic accreditations and recognitions ensure the integrity of the organic produce. This is important as  organic systems work in harmony with nature creating a healthy environment and produce that is free of chemicals. Two of the organisation that can certify produce as organic are OCIA International  and NOP.

OCIA International  or  the International Organic Crop Improvement Association is one of the most trusted organisations providing organic certification. It is a non profit, member owned agricultural organisation that is dedicated to environmentally sound stewardship.

The National Organic Program or NOP is an organisation in the US which is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering national production, handling, and labeling standards for organic agricultural products. It is also responsible for the accreditation of the certifying agents who inspect organic production and handling operations to certify that they meet USDA standards.
