Braintree Hemp started in Australia and has pioneered the manufacture of hemp clothing. They have worked with fabric weavers to ensure an excellent quality of hemp fabric unlike the traditional hemp offerings which were sometimes poorly constructed. Hemp is an ideal alternative to both conventional cotton and synthetic textiles due to it’s excellent environmental credentials. It requires no herbicides or pesticides to grow and needs very little water.
Braintree began operating in the UK in 2002 and opened a shop in Portobello Road. They have since moved their shop to Camden and also sell by mail order.
Braintree Hemp now sells a range of clothing made of Hemp, Bamboo and Soy. They only use eco fabrics and believe in producing clothing in an environmentally friendly way, but also ensuring that everyone involved gets a fair deal.
