Sustainability and Recycling
Sustainability or sustainable development describes the way that we manage the resources on our planet, in a way that ensures that we they will be protected for the future and for future generations. It includes fossil fuels, wood, water and land space. Sustainable development is all about caring for and respecting the environment.
The key to sustainable development is both in recycling and reusing products and resources and using resources that can be replenished in a way that the consumption is not greater than the replenishment. For textiles, fibres like Bamboo are very sustainable because they grow quickly and easily without the use of excess water or pesticides and with minimum impact on the environment.
Recycling is key to sustainable development as it lessens the need for new resources and materials and it lessens the amount of land space taken up by the ever growing problem of landfill. In order for recycling to become possible, products should be made and designed to last using quality materials. Making products from natural and biodegradable materials also helps with sustainable development as they can easily be returned back to the raw materials and used for manufacture of new products.
