Bamboo - a growing trend

Bamboo seems to be the must have material of the moment. It is being used for everything from organic baby clothes to towels and bedding to flooring. So what is it about bamboo that makes it such a popular material for so many uses?

Part of the attraction of bamboo is it’s sustainability. As consumers are become more aware of the envirnmental impact of shopping choices, they are also actively seeking out the most sustainable options. Bamboo is a grass, it grows quickly without the need for chemical pesticides or irrigation making it a very sustainable crop.

Bamboo and it’s Asian origins give it strong links in many peoples minds with health a well being something that so many people are looking for to counteract their hectic lifestyles.

Bamboo is also a very versatile plant. It can become as soft as silk or as hard as oak depending on how it is processed. It has so many great properties that make ideal for many different purposes.

The final reason for the increase in the use of bamboo is that as the global demand has increased so has the production in China, where the techniques for spinning fiber and making fabric were developed. China, with it’s growing economy is keen to sell it’s product to the rest of the world by ensuring that it complies to all the neccessary organic, environmental and ethical standards.
