Bamboo Baby Organic Baby Clothes - how it all started
In case you were wondering about who is behind Bamboo Baby or how the company started, here is a bit of background information.
Bamboo Baby was founded in 2006 by sisters Sophie and Chloe Tostevin as response to the problem of finding contemporary, design led baby and children’s wear that has a minimum impact on the environment. The company started with a small range of organic baby care products and nappies and cloth nappies before expanding the range to include baby clothes designed by Sophie. The first baby clothes sold on Bamboo Baby were designed as part of Sophie’s final year project for her fashion degree at Kingston University. The range has now expanded and includes denim, underwear, blankets, coats plus baby essentials like vests and bodysuits.
Chloe and Sophie both feel very strongly about the environment and choose Bamboo as fabric both for it’s amazing qualities which make it ideal for baby and children’s wear but also it sustainability. Bamboo Baby uses both cotton and bamboo and ensures that they are produced both organically and ethically using a number of certifications and standards including Oeko Tex 100 and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards) and by employing a member of SEDEX, the supplier ethical data exchange, as a full time agent to ensure that the garment factories adhere to local labour laws and to manage quality control.
Using organic and sustainable fibres are both great ways to help the environment, but with Bamboo Baby it does not stop there. Chloe and Sophie are committed to running an ethical and eco friendly business in many other ways which include the use of shipping instead of air freight, eco friendly packaging and the use of renewable energy for there office. They also donate 1% of turnover each month to an environmental or children’s charity.
