Lily Cole backs scheme to save Amazon rainforest
Lily Cole, the 21 year old super model and Cambridge University student has given her support to the Sky Rainforest rescue campaign which launched in Kew gardens in London. The project which will run for three years, aims to save more than 3 million hectares of trees in Acre, North West Brazil by offering financial incentives to local communities.
Sky and the World Wildlife Fund are requesting donations towards the scheme which will help to preserve the biodiversity of the rain forest and lots of different species including the pink river dolphin, howler monkeys, scarlet macaws and giant otters. Each £10 donated will save 500 trees and the broadcaster Sky will match each donation pound for pound.
Although the Rainforest seems a very long way from the UK, its destruction will have very far reaching effects. Not only the loss of so many different species of plants and animals but also its very significant impact on climate change.
