The future of bamboo clothing
Bamboo clothing is the latest in organic Eco fashion, not only is it sustainable, but also very soft, hypo allergenic and chemical free. It is gaining in popularity for all sorts of uses including sports, designer and baby clothes. Even celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Maggie Gildenhall, Ashley Olsen, Jamie Fox and Paris Hilton buy bamboo clothing for either themselves or their children.
Bamboo clothing is still far from being mainstream though, with many yet to discover it’s amazing benefits, particularly in the case of baby clothes. With bamboo clothing being found to beneficial to many babies and children who suffer from eczema and parents becoming more concerned about the chemicals in clothing, bamboo clothing is likely to become more and more widespread. The environmental benefits of bamboo are also a big attraction for many with it being a highly sustainable material that even helps to reverse the build up of green house gases.
Bamboo clothing is already common in Japan, China and other Asian countries. Whilst bamboo and other organic fabrics have been considered as expensive alternatives in the past, the relative cost of oil used to make synthetic fabrics is now making bamboo a much more attractive option economically. It also grows much quicker than cotton without the need for pesticides, so whilst it is unlikely to replace organic cotton in the future due to current cultivation and processing capacity, it could well account for a much larger proportion of clothing than it currently does.
