International Day of Swishing
You may have heard about ‘Swishing’, it is the term coined by Lucy Shea of Sustainability communications company Futerra and describes clothes swapping parties. Swishing has become a global phenomena and in recognition tomorrow (Saturday 9th January) has been designated as International Day of Swishing.
Swishing or clothes swapping is a great way to recycle clothes and reduce the amount of textiles being disposed of in landfill each year. It is also a great way to refresh your wardrobe without resorting to the environmentally damaging fast fashion. Other reasons that swishing and clothes swapping have become so popular is that they are frugal (you can get a whole new outfit without spending any money) and fun ( a chance to get together with friends, try on and chat about clothes).
To celebrate International Day of Swishing, there will be a flagship event at the Andaz Liverpool Street Hotel in London. There will be cocktails, music and lots of swapping, with Students from London’s top fashion courses will be on hand to offer style advice and basic amendments. The event is free to attend but if you are unable to make it there are plenty of other events which are listed on www.swishing.org going on around the country (and world) including an online swap party.
